Our Year 8 boys Development Side Had a Great Tournament Week in the Hawkes Bay Last Week!
Congratulations on some good cricket lads! You can read about their matches below.
As always, a huge thank you to coaches, volunteers, parents and supporters for making these trips possible.
Day 1
The boys had a good start winning their match against Cambridge Alpha Sport. Lucus Erb retired with 53 and Jesse Williams also had a great day with the bat with 45 not out.
Day 2
Day two was a long, hot but successful day with two 30 over matches.
The first game against WBOP Wagner, Taranaki won by 58 runs with some standout bowling by Keshara Jayasinghe who took 4 wickets and Lucus Erb who took 3 wickets.
The second game against Cambridge Rothbury Insurance Brokers, Taranaki won by 125 runs. Jesse Williams retired with 50 runs and it was an all team effort in the field with 9 of the team bowling and Levi Fieldes, Lucas Erb, Jesse Williams, Oliver Knowles, Oscar Fryer and Tristen Kuriger all taking wickets.
Day 3
Day 3 was against Seddon Cricket Club who won the toss and elected to bowl. Being 50 overs on a grass pitch was a first for many of the boys.
Ashton Smith had a successful day with the bat with making 37 runs with five balls finding the boundary. Lucas Erb and Jack Trethewey worked hard bowling 7 overs each with great economy rates, Lucas taking two wickets along with Keshara (2), Levi (1) and Jesse W (1). Jesse Plant also bowled four overs with an impressive economy rate of 1.50. Seddon won the match 6/143 vs Taranaki’s 10/142 and were great sports sharing some chocolate milk with the team at the end of the match.
Day 4
Day 4 was 30 overs against Guthrie Bowron HKCA on a grass pitch. HKCA were well drilled and our boys just ran out of steam playing in another 31 degree day, HKCA winning the match by 105 runs. Once again it was a team effort with the bowling with Jake McNeil, Ollie Knowles, Tristen Kuriger, Lucas Erb, Ashton Smith, Jack Trethewey and Jesse Plant all taking wickets assisted by Tristen taking a catch as keeper and catches by Ashton, Jesse W and a run out by Lucas.
Overall the boys had a great time away and a huge thanks to our coach Mike (who umpired every game!) and assistant coach Nick and scorer Braydon..
