It’s a double header weekend and a crucial one for our Bartercard Taranaki women this weekend!
Hawkes Bay roll into town for matches today and tomorrow and realistically Taranaki needs to win both to stay in the hunt for the Shrimpton Trophy.
The side is currently third, after a cruel rain-off with victory in their sights against Manawatu last month – a win in that game would have seen the side top the table.
Instead they trail Wairarapa and Manawatu by two points and sit equal with their Hawkes Bay opponents, meaning there’s plenty on the line for both sides.
The matches are being held at Western Park, with the Hawke Cup defence being hosted on Pukekura Park.
Head coach Debu Banik has retained a settled squad for the two matches with the only new face being Nicola Clayton, a former first-class player for Canterbury who has moved to the province.
Otherwise all the names are familiar and some of the key players are in good from as well, with strike bowler Grace Foreman, keeper and vice-captain Jessie Hollard and opener Emily Cunningham all coming off strong performances for the CD A side in recent weeks.
It’s all set to be cracker of a weekend for the girls – head along to Western park and show your support!
