Bruce Liffiton Cup – Carter Herlihy

23 May 2023

A massive congratulations to Francis Douglas Memorial College’s Carter Herlihy, awarded the Bruce Liffiton Cup last week for an intermediate school player who exemplifies superior cricket ability and attainment, shows great sportsmanship and is a valued team member both on and off the field.

Carter is pictured here receiving the trophy off last year’s winner, fellow FDMC student Lenny Potter.

Carter’s nomination said:
Carter has demonstrated over the last 12 months, whether it is with the Taranaki Pathways team or representing FDMC at weekend cricket or Primary Cup, that he is one of the superior batsmen of his age group in the region. This is demonstrated by the volume of runs he has scored in all competitions, which he does at a strike rate well over 100. He is also a genuine all-rounder as he also one of the better bowlers in his age group. He is a skilful fielder and contributes to the leadership of his FDMC side and is greatly respected by his peers. He has been the highest run scorer and MVP for FDMC and was the highest run scorer for the Year 7 Black Taranaki Pathways team during the last season and narrowly missed out on MVP for that team. He is a genuine hard worker when it comes to cricket. He attends all trainings available; he is a good listener and fast learner. He is a great representative of the “good college man” mantra on and off the field. He also puts in additional training effort in his own time.

Bruce Liffiton was heavily involved in Taranaki junior representative cricket in the 1980s and 1990s. During this time, he donated the Liffiton Cup in recognition of the most outstanding Year 8 Representative Cricketer from the North Taranaki region. Bruce’s intentions for this award were to recognize the Year 8 Representative player who performed on the field in school and representative cricket. In addition, the player also demonstrated sportsmanship and an exemplary attitude on and off the cricket field.

Well done Carter, it’s good to see your hard work paying off!
