Junior Development
Nth Taranaki U12s - ‘A tight unit’ beat Manawatu.
Match - Vs Manawatu U12s, Sunday 12th Feb 2012 (40 over’s).
Venue - Ongly Park, Palmerston Nth
Captain – Robson Chapman
Tight bowling and exceptional fielding from this young side set up a comfortable win today in Palmerston North.
Nth Taranaki won the toss and put Manawatu into bat. We opened the bowling with Mitchell Proffit and Robson Chapman. Both boys bowled a very tight line placing pressure on the Manawatu batsmen. After 10 over’s Manawatu were 2 wickets down for 19 runs with Mitchell taking both wickets and figures of 2wkts 11 runs 5 over’s including a c&b, Robson not taking a wicket but only 8 runs from his 5 overs.
Ben Frewin and Matthew Allan continued the attack in the same vein, with Ben ending with figures of 1wkt 9 runs 5 over’s including a caught and bowled. Matthew was unlucky not to have a wicket against his name with clear caught behind not given out. This followed with the spinning duo of Caleb Frewin and George Miles. It did not take these two long to tear into action ripping through the Manawatu middle order over by over. Both boys ended with excellent figures, Caleb 3wkts 14 runs 6 over’s and George 3wkts 1 run 3.3 overs, George taking the last Manawatu batsman caught behind (wk – Quinn Mills).
This effort bowling was also matched in the field with a fine run out from Jacob Richards throwing down the stumps from point and all the boys general ground play. Once again this team received favourable comments from the opposition spectators.
Manawatu bowled out in the 32nd over for 76.
We opened our batting with Caleb Frewin and Robson Chapman. The first wicket fell (Robson) in the forth over score 11, with Robson out for 6. Matthew Allan joined Caleb taking the score through to 29 before Matthew was bowled in the 14th over. Ben Frewin joined his older brother with the partnership adding a further 13 runs before Ben was caught, out for no score. Caleb and Sam Poles-Smith saw us through to the win in the 25th over with Caleb scoring an unbeaten 45.
